About

When We Might Work Together

Knowing that something needs to change doesn't always mean knowing what to do.

Perhaps you're beginning to wonder whether your home will continue to work for you.  Perhaps you know something needs to change, but aren't sure what.  Or perhaps you've already made a decision and need a design, or  help figuring out how to make it work. You don't need to know what you want to do before we talk.  We can begin wherever you are.  I'll help you understand the situation, explore possibilities, and determine what kind of help would be useful.  Sometimes that means working through a decision. Sometimes it means we'll plan or design a change to your home. Sometimes it means preparing for a move. The first step is a no-cost phone conversation about what you're trying to accomplish and how I work.  We'll decide together whether it makes sense to meet and, if so, how to proceed. My fees are set on a sliding scale.

Who I Am

I am a home designer and thought partner.

My work sits at the intersection of design and decision-making.

I'm an interior designer by training, and I've spent my career helping people make their homes work better for the lives they actually live.  Among many other projects, I've designed full renovations for accessibility, helped clients moving to Life Care Communities decide how to use and furnish their new homes, and reorganized existing homes when aging or illness changed what was needed.  Clients sometimes call me their House Therapist.

How I Work

You are the expert on your life.  I'm expert in design and process. My job is not to tell you what you should do. It's to help you see the situation clearly enough to decide what you want to do—and then help make it possible.

That means asking questions, noticing things that may be easy to overlook, exploring possibilities, and figuring out what is actually workable.  Sometimes the answer is a renovation.  Sometimes it's a different use of the space you already have.  Sometimes it's a move.  Sometimes it's simply a better plan for later.

What I Do Most of us invest a massive amount of resources in our homes.  I believe a home should do real work for us in return: every square foot should be helpful, encouraging, and beautiful.  Constraints, handled well, are often the source of the most interesting ideas. I work with individuals and small groups on planning, design, and implementation.  Whether that means a whole-house renovation, a one-room use revision, choosing or preparing a new home, or thinking through how a home might change as priorities change depends entirely on the person and the situation.

If Not Now If Not Now is a workbook that grew out of this same way of working.  The workbook is not for sale, but there are ways to use the method in your own thinking and as you work with me.

If you are considering options and are curious about working with me, please get in touch.

A REQUEST

OLDER, WISER AND MORE RESOLVED

I'm working on a project about the ways our homes can make memorable moments in our lives possible.

Was there something you changed or added to your living room that made an important moment possible?

I'd love to hear your story.
